International and Pacific Asian Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words - 1

International and Pacific Asian Business - Essay Example These factors contributed to the shift from multinationalism to globalization. Since the millennium, academics and business people were more concern about ways in which globalization could affect domestic and international economy (Tierney 2004; Smith and Yaw 2002, p. 1). The purpose of globalization aims to promote the practice of free trading in the world market by removing barriers like import and export taxes which could prevent business people from taking advantage over the use of natural resources around the world (Nanduri 2006). By linking the trade and development in one country to other countries around the world, globalization makes it possible for businessmen to have the opportunity to maximize the use of the available natural resources and manpower (Krugman & Obstfeld 2009, p. 27, 273). As part of examining the new economy in the international and pacific Asian business, this report will analyze and discuss ways in which international trading is being conducted using the new trade theories as tackled by Paul Krugman. Eventually, trade theories which could accurately explain the competitiveness of business locations will be tackled in details. In line with this, economic theories related to economics of scale, demand led, product life cycle, the significance of monopolistic competition will be applied in different case scenarios by providing real-life examples and evidences. Prior to conclusion, the key trade patterns will be critically evaluated. The New Economy in International and Pacific Asian Business Because of globalization, fast economic growth and continuous business expansion can be observed in the modern international and pacific Asian businesses. In order to gain competitive advantage over other businesses in the world market, the new economy in International and pacific Asian businesses are heavily focused over the need to rely on the practice of trading goods and services within and outside a given country. As part of increasing the com petitive advantage of each business, large-scale companies are competing with one another not only in terms of acquiring the cheapest yet high quality raw materials but also in terms of hiring competitive and highly skilled employees at a minimum wage level (Steger 2003, p. 37). As a basic rule in business, high profit can be achieved not only when a company is able to produce enough supply based on the market demand but also when a company is able to keep its business operational cost at a very low price. Specifically the low operational cost can be achieved either by maximizing the use of the available human resources through the use of high technology and machineries or through economies of scale. Economies of Scale As explained by Krugman and Obstfeld (2009, p. 114), economies of scale in microeconomics is all about the cost advantage each businesses could earn by maximizing the use of its available technology and human resources. In line with this, a company is able to keep the unit price of certain product low each time the buyer purchases specific item by bulk. In other words, reducing the unit cost of a product is possible because producing a single item by volume can be manufactured on a large scale without the need to spend more money spent human resources. Emerging market Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Emerging market - Assignment Example There was a rising tendency in the consumption of strong alcoholic beverages until the end of 1980s; in mid 1990s this trend was reversed. Since then the demand for vodka has been decreasing, whereas the demand for beer and wine has been growing1 (Tabel 1). "Alcohol is often characterized as unconditionally negative in the context of poverty." ("Poverty and Alcohol" - an article by Yoon Hui Kim, 2004). Yet, the same author agrees that arguments have been made for both the benefits and disadvantages of alcohol production and consumption - as an industry, alcohol production has been argued to spur economic growth and alleviate poverty, while as a commodity it has been criticized for exacerbating the conditions of impoverishment. Consequently, for poor people alcohol can have both positive and negative repercussions on economic, political, social, and health factors. Alcohol consumption can act as a financial drain for indigent households by diverting limited funds from expenditures on food, healthcare, and education. White spirits and in particular, vodka, have been on the increase since 1999. Much of the growth has been inspired by younger adults, who are either supplementing or bypassing altogether, beer and wine, in preference3. The alcohol industry is an innovative industry able to use a wide variety of marketing tools to achieve success in the market-place. The various aspects of product marketing include advertising, labeling, consumer promotion, packaging and merchandising, being an integral part of promoting different brands of consumer goods. Alcohol consumption in Poland is comparable to that in other European countries4. Buying of alcohol (frequency & amount) depends on demographic, socio-economic and psychological factors. Statistical data reveal that alcohol consumption is wide spread in Poland. In the period of the last dozen years changes in the quantity and structure of consumption were observed. The most frequently consumed alcohol is currently beer, particularly among young people. In may 2003, a research investigating "The conditions of alcohol consumption among Polish adults" published in Electronic Journal of Polish Agricultural Universities shows that older people seem to prefer wine and v odka. Apart from age, sex also influences preferences: "women more frequently than men drink all kinds of wine and flavoured vodka, "whereas beer, pure vodka and mead are drunk more often by men" (the

Human Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Human Development - Essay Example 3. Explain the relationship of language to memory. 4. What is theory of the mind and how does it develop? 5. How does moral development change from infancy through middle childhood? How does cognition develop from infancy through middle childhood? Cognition develops in infancy through active exploring using cognitive structures. Piaget’s cognitive theory explained that for the child to discover his surroundings has to develop his intelligence through organization and adaptation. Organization takes place when a child systematically combines existing structures with interrelated actions and ideas. Adaptation on the other hand is when a child adjusts to the demand of his surroundings employing assimilation and accommodation. A child is said to have assimilated experiences when it is interpreted in terms of cognitive structures. Existing cognitive structures are used to understand new events. While accommodation is the modification of what is learned from the earlier experiences. For example, as the child gazes an object, he tries to grasp to reach. However, as he ages, he recognizes primitive structures thus refined action is expected. The same holds true in the child’s knowledge of a dog. For his first encounter, he may give a definition of a dog to be a thing that barks. However, for successive exposures, he may look at the dog as an animal with four legs.

The role of the IMF & World Bank Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

The role of the IMF & World Bank - Essay Example The realist theories propose that the sovereign states are the main actors in the international system and that other institutions have little influence in the international scene (Evans M. 2001). Of course this assumption at that time was very plausible considering the fact that globalization and giant multi-national organizations were not really very popular at the time when the World Bank and the IMF were organized. Remember that it was just after World War II when these organizations came into being and at that time the notion that the international system is anarchic (Doyle, Michael (1997) and that no authority is considered above the state that is capable of regulating the interactions among nations (Schweller, Randall L (2003) was very popular. Since the World Bank and the IMF were organized to help the states, their presence was more or less acceptable to its member nations. Of course the roles that World Bank and the IMF play have been questions by many people over the years but the point is that these organizations have been instrumental in bringing together some order in the international financial scene. Moreover, aside from trying to make some policy influence on some nations, the World Bank and the IMF do not really have any means of directly intervening into the affairs of the different states all over the world. In other words, despite the presence of these international organizations, nations remain to be relatively independent when it comes to making decisions. At the start, we can say that the World and the IMF were more biased toward assisting sovereign nations and do not really recognize non-government organizations as potential vehicles for development. The initial task of the World Bank was specific towards rebuilding the European nations after World War II and the IMF were more geared towards stabilizing the economy of
